At PLT Health Solutions, our awareness of the need for equitable, sustainable business practices has grown out of a 70-year concern with human health and well-being – delivered via the plant-based and botanical solutions that we bring to market. Sustainable practice comes naturally to us, and we realize it is necessary for our success.
Around the world, PLT engages in efforts to support the sustainable growing, harvesting, and processing of the raw materials that go into its ingredients as part of our PLT360™ initiative. This work includes supply chain reviews of ethical practices and environmental protection activities. At PLT, we feel environmental protection, sustainable sourcing, protection of natural resources and ethical conduct are not only the right thing to do – they are also good business.
PLT is actively engaged in sustainability-promoting activities with our supply partners. In Central Asia, our partner Nektium has developed the first commercially viable cultivation program for Rhodiola rosea. In the forests of India, we have conducted third-party sustainability audits on the Boswellia serrata tree population. Our partner HG&H Pharmaceuticals sustainably cultivates Sceletium tortuosum with a program of rewards sharing with the indigenous communities who share their knowledge and work to produce our ingredient Zembrin. In Southern France, our partner Copalis makes our Collactive® Collagen Complex from fish parts that are not used as food and are certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council.
As it turns out, most of our innovation and manufacturing partners are leaders in this area because they realize that environmental protection, sustainable planting and harvesting, natural resource stewardship, green processing, and a good living for their workers are essential to the continuation of their business in the future.
In September of 2021, PLT Health Solutions was officially certified as carbon neutral. Today, we remain certified carbon neutral working with ClimeCo. To achieve this certification, we instituted a company-wide emissions reduction program to lower our environmental impact. This has included consolidating our international product shipments to reduce cargo emissions and balancing essential business travel with virtual meetings to reduce air travel emissions. It also includes workplace initiatives such as investment in energy-efficient technologies and moving files and documentation to electronic formats to minimize paper use. One part of the PLT program to go carbon neutral is our support for the ADPML Portel-Para REDD Project – a tropical forest conservation initiative located in Brazil that combines conservation with community development activities. The Project is a payment for ecosystem services forest conservation project, otherwise known as a Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) project, protecting nearly 500,000 acres (200,000 hectares) of tropical rainforest.
Our Sustainability platform is one of our People+Planet™ initiatives dedicated to promoting human health and quality of life, as well as projects supporting the environment on both land and sea.
